2023 Participant Biographies
Mister Cris Avery is a passionate and seasoned community advocate/educator. Mister Cris has done extensive advocacy work around access to transition related care using insurance. Mister Cris has been an integral part in insurance access in the United states and has done surgical billing for several trans affirming surgeons throughout the US. He has helped start up and expand capacity for several trans healthcare programs throughout the United states.
He is a National trainer providing trainings to further cultural competency for providers and promote overall wellness. Mister Cris does trainings on removing barriers to care, cultural competency, sexual health, trans surgical procedures,
insurance coding/ billing for providers, gender politics and more.
He is a member of WPATH as well as other committees and organizations dedicated to trans issues and HIV prevention.
Mister Cris is a published author and released a 3 part book series called “Jamaican Fruit” in Summer 2018 about the life of a Jamaican American Man of Trans experience.
